While the Internet of Things is consuming almost every electronic device known to man, from the refrigerator to the car, Z-Wave believes that there are still more things that can gain a WiFi connection, with the company announcing a competition designed for start-up companies and entrepreneurs looking to bring Z-Wave products to market.
The Z-Wave Labs global competition is open to any private company or individuals aged 18 years or older.
In order to win, those companies or individuals will need to submit their Z-Wave product innovation through an online application form, with the competition running monthly.
To be in with a chance of winning, those applying will need to ensure that their applications are submitted by the 15th of each month, with Z-Wave Labs looking for applications from a variety of industries; including residential, commercial, automotive, healthcare, energy, security and aging-in-place.
There will be one winner every month for a period of 12 months, with a panel of judges using a number of different criteria to select said winner.
The criteria that applicants will be judged on include; innovation, functionality, engineering and design style, ingenuity, breadth of applicability, marketability and ease of use.
Each winner will receive access to the Z-Wave IoT 500 series development kits from Sigma Designs and one full year of Z-Wave Alliance membership at Full Member level, as long as the Alliance’s Full Membership and confidentiality agreement is signed.
Members gain numerous benefits; including participation in Alliance trade shows, working groups, PR and marketing opportunities and other related activities.
