Vivint may not be a company that is well known in the home automation market here in Europe, but the company has big ambitions with its latest product – the Sky Smart Home.
The Vivint Sky Smart Home is a home security and automation system that offers many of the features you’d expect in this industry; and more.
The security side of the Sky Smart Home starts from the front door, with a doorbell camera which starts recording as soon as someone approaches the door.
When the doorbell is rung the homeowner will get a live video feed with two way audio directly to a smartphone App or to the system’s wall panel that can be installed in the home.
If the person inputs the correct code on the deadbolt the system will automatically disarm and activate various actions around the home.
It’s similar to how Nest works when it detects you enter the home, by adjusting the temperature, but it goes even further by turning on lights or other smart home objects.
Vivint is working on a way for the camera to authenticate faces and unlock the door automatically, without the need to input a code. Although the company admits that it will be several months until this rolls out to customers.
This isn’t the first time Vivint has showed off the Sky Smart Home, last year the company revealed pricing details for the product which excluded the doorbell. It wasn’t especially affordable back then with customers required to enter into a 43 month contract paying up to £50 a month after a £70 activation fee.
The system is touted as a complete solution with a range of sensors, cameras and motion detectors available – although prices change depending on how many items are installed.
That’s not to say similar systems aren’t available with ADT, Google and other companies all offering systems similar to Vivint’s.
