Nest is expanding its European presence, with the Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Cam Indoor and Outdoor and Nest Protect smart home products now available in Austria, Germany, Italy and Spain.
It’s not the first time Nest has had a European presence, after all the company has been selling its products in the UK since April 2014. Since then the company has undergone a massive transformation, however. Which includes the departure of CEO Tony Fadell, the introduction of the Nest Cam and the controversy caused by the company’s acquisition of Revolv.
European pricing for the Nest portfolio of products has been set at €249 for the Nest Thermostat, €199 for the Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor, and €119 for the Nest Protect smoke alarm. The subscription services that go with those products, including the Nest Aware service that lets users record and store videos of their home for a set fee, will start at €10 per month or €100 a year.
Despite its expansion into new markets, it’s unlikely to satisfy some Alphabet investors who have criticised Nest for being too slow to launch new products. The last brand new product to debut from the smart home manufacturer was the Nest Cam, which was only the result of the Dropcam acquisition.
