Prove your humanity

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One S and Xbox One X will soon output native QHD (1440p) on supported monitors. That spells an end to the console’s constant downscaling to 1080p, leaving users unable to appreciate the true power of the two consoles.

While the Xbox One X and Xbox One S have both been able to output in 4K, those with QHD monitors have had to contend with 1080p. Thankfully, the Xbox One X features supersampling which improves the graphical quality of games played in 1080p, but it’s still not quite the same as playing in QHD.

Thankfully, Kevin Gammill, program manager for Microsoft’s Xbox Platform Partner Group, has revealed via Twitter that the QHD resolution will soon be supported. On the downside, he doesn’t exactly reveal when it will be available, but he does note that it will be available to those on Xbox’s early preview ring ‘very soon’.

The addition of QHD should be good news to those with a monitor supporting the resolution, although it’s been a long time coming. The Xbox One X should have been capable of supporting QHD from the moment it launched, while it’s unclear whether Microsoft plans to upscale games to 1440p on the Xbox One S.
