New Sonos One Colours Launched, UK Pricing & Release Date

Sonos is continuing to launch special editions of its popular smart speakers, with the Sonos One now getting the limited-edition treatment. The speaker manufacturer has partnered with Danish design brand HAY to launch new colours for the Sonos One, and it’ll be available from Selfridges in the UK.

Unlike the new Beastie Boys Edition Play:5, the colourful Sonos One speakers will carry a premium on top of the black and white variants. That means that while you can pick up a Sonos One for just £199 from most retailers, you’ll have to pay £229 for the privilege of owning a coloured model. What’s more, the proceeds from this limited release will not go to charity.

The Sonos One is still arguably the best smart speaker on the market, and that’s largely thanks to the promise of multi-assistant support. While we’re still waiting for the Google Assistant to be added to the roster, the Sonos One currently supports the Alexa voice assistant and its implementation works extremely well – we’d argue that it is better at listening for commands than Amazon’s own Echo speaker.

With the HAY partnership, the Sonos One is now available in yellow, green, red, pink and grey. It does seem odd to be lacking a new blue model, but at least pastel fans will find a speaker that will fit their aesthetic.

“At HAY, no two products are the same. I believe each object has its own set of colours: a chair, a toothbrush, or a piece of porcelain can’t have the same colours, yet they can still complement each other. For the Sonos range, we were inspired by our daily home life. We wanted to create colours that were for everyone,” said Mette Hay, co-founder of HAY.

“The yellow relates to kitchens and bathrooms that are often kept light and complemented with stainless steel and porcelain. The green hues are meant to remind viewers of pots or plants sitting by windows. The light grey is for everyone. It was important to find the right shade – one that suits both workspaces, homes, and different looks with its neutral tone. Pink is the colour we feel closely connected to in fashion – we feel that all things pink create a special desire right now. The iconic red was the final colour I chose for the collection, as it creates such an important accent with regards to furniture.”

The speakers, which were first shown off at Salone del Mobile in Milan, will be available for purchase from Selfridges from November 5 at 9am. It’s also possible to pre-order the new colours from Sonos’ own website. Pricing has been set at £229.
