Located in Zurich’s prestigious Paradeplatz, Mews House – a new concept hospitality venue that blends boutique accommodation, dining, retail and events under one roof – has implemented a Sonos system throughout the property.
Housed in a historic 17th-century building, the venue has been reimagined as a curated, multi-use destination designed to deliver a premium, highly personalised guest experience.
With three luxury guest suites, a restaurant, bar, retail space and multiple event areas, exclusivity and attention to detail are central to the Mews House offering. To compete with five-star hotels in the city, Mews House needed standout design and service, supported by premium (yet unobtrusive) technologies to aid the experience, including a flexible, high-quality audio solution.
As a full refurbishment of a historic building, Mews House required a completely new AV and IT infrastructure. Audio needed to serve a wide range of use cases, from background music in hospitality spaces to in-room entertainment for guests, while maintaining simplicity for both staff and visitors, whilst not intruding with the building’s high-end aesthetic.
One of the key challenges was balancing system-wide control with guest privacy. While the venue required a single, unified audio ecosystem, individual guests needed to interact only with the system in their own rooms. The broader smart building environment, which uses a KNX system, also meant audio needed to integrate seamlessly with lighting, climate control and concierge services, all accessible via in-room iPads.
Partner SAT Multimedia delivered the Sonos system and managed the initial installation, working with Stilus, an added-value distributor that supported concept design, planning and commissioning.
Speakers are installed in almost every space, including guest suites, restaurant, bar, retail area and rooftop terrace. A total of 15 pairs of Sonos Era 100 Pro were installed throughout the venue, with five Sonos Arc Ultra soundbars deployed in guest rooms. Outdoor audio is supported by two Outdoor Speakers by Sonos and Sonance, with Sonos Amp units forming the backbone of the system.
The system is divided into multiple zones, covering areas including the indoor and outdoor bar, restaurant, retail and individual guest rooms. This zoning allows staff to tailor audio to different settings and moments throughout the day. Control is handled primarily through iPads and mobile devices, enabling staff to manage playlists, group zones or adjust audio instantly. Guests, meanwhile, can access their own private audio environment within their rooms, ensuring a personalised experience.
Ease of use has been a defining benefit for the Mews House team. “The biggest advantage with Sonos is that it’s very easy to handle, and it’s very well known. If you have any issues, you can find solutions quickly – and the sound quality is really excellent,” says Lukas Hasler, Head of Hospitality at Mews House.
The system enables Mews House to deliver distinct audio environments across its spaces, with refined playlists in the restaurant giving way to more relaxed tones on the rooftop terrace. Thanks to the grouped zones, maintaining consistency where needed is also easily achievable.
The discreet nature of the speakers also aligns with the venue’s design ethos, avoiding bulky hardware while delivering high-performance sound.
With straightforward control functionality via iPad, paired with flexible zoning and strong sound performance, the solution supports ease of use and guest satisfaction with premium performance, helping the venue position itself alongside Zurich’s leading luxury hospitality destinations.
“I would definitely recommend Sonos, it’s one of the best systems I’ve used in a hospitality environment. Everything can be controlled easily through an iPad or phone. That makes a huge difference to us in our work here at Mews House,” adds Lukas.
