The Redline Distribution team is excited to introduce to the UK the MiniVee X by subwoofer specialists Velodyne Acoustics, billed as a true 21st century bass reproduction solution.
The ability to produce powerful, accurate, agile bass from a compact enclosure has never been a more powerful proposition than now, says the distributor. With the demands placed on bass reproduction increasing in recent years with user’s demanding strong performance for movies, gaming and music, makers need to deliver across all these fields and as space in homes is at a premium, they need to do this within a compact form factor. Enter the Velodyne Acoustics MiniVee-X, an advancement on the success of the original MiniVee 8 and 10, this new incarnation delivers on every level, says Redline.
From its birth in 1983, Velodyne Acoustics has only ever made subwoofers, so dealers benefit from decades of knowhow and quality. With an impressive number of patents, the company has used all its experience to lean into the demands placed on the modern subwoofer and produced the MiniVee-X.
Increasingly, subwoofers are seen as an essential partner for everyday use, as users want to access the vast quantity of audio now available across streaming platforms (music and video) as well as the high-quality immersive soundtracks available to gamers and film lovers. This new Bluetooth APP-controlled, compact subwoofer (H/W/D 43 cm x 41 cm x 41 cm) delivers ultra-high output, with low distortion. Whilst being mindful of the popularity of the original MiniVee 8 and 10, the development team wanted to take advantage of all the very latest research, so approached the MiniVee-X in many ways as if it were a brand-new product.

Impressive Results
The new product boasts a fresh acoustic design with state-of-the-art driver configuration. Redline says MiniVee-X enjoys the benefits of a closed cabinet, helping it achieve excellent precision, whilst the acoustically optimised MDF housing has additional bracings inside included to eliminate resonances. The product also boasts two completely redesigned 8in drivers (one active with 22mm X-max and one passive). This driver arrangement and extensive cabinet bracing is in place to deliver clean and pleasingly fast bass reproduction. For aesthetic appeal, the cabinet is finished in a piano black. Custom colour finishes are available on request through Redline.

APP Controlled Partners DSP Room Correction
Room correction abilities have been a much-discussed subject in recent times, with more options becoming available. Velodyne Acoustics has long been an expert in this area, pioneering automatic room correction for over twenty years. Sophisticated and pro level room tuning is now available through a proprietary app that allows dealers to adjust the MiniVee X to suit all environments. This newly created Velodyne Acoustics Auto EQ App is available to Apple and Android users and is equally adept at tuning for surround sound systems or ‘two-channel’ preferences.
Through an automated room correction process, customers will get the optimal performance they deserve achieving maximum SPL with a more linear response tailored to their listening preferences, says the distributor.

800 W Advanced Class D Amplification
High level connectors, RCA/XLR inputs/outputs complete a newly developed DSP-controlled, effective and cool running Class D amplifier delivering up to 800W. Like all its Velodyne cousins, MiniVee X includes anti-clipping and overheating circuitry to prevent distortion and keep the high-quality bass coming no matter the demands placed on the unit.
A high purity 2in copper voice coil with special four-layer winding is in place to minimise distortion and power compression whilst delivering maximum heat dissipation, linearity and tuned magnetics for precise high excursion. The double-coated carbon fibre voice coil former provides excellent stiffness with a high thermal load capacity. To ensure optimal heat dissipation at the high-power output, the motor is double ventilated for maximum SPL.

Crucial Connectivity
The MiniVee-X is equipped with a stereo high-level input for direct connection to the loudspeaker output of any amplifier. This is the preferred connection method for many as it ensures that the subwoofer receives the exact same stereo signal as the other loudspeakers, ensuring better performance across the audio spectrum.
The most common way to connect a subwoofer to a stereo or home cinema system is the stereo or LFE connection via RCA or XLR jacks. For easy daisy chain of the signal to another subwoofer, MiniVee-X is also equipped with a Stereo / LFE RCA and XLR output.
In addition, the MiniVee-X offers a high-pass filter on the RCA or XLR output that can be turned on and adjusted via app. If the output for the main speaker is freed from the respective low-bass signals, this promotes better more harmonious performance.
Many home cinema processors have a trigger output for automatic switching on/off of related components, MiniVee-X therefore has a suitable 3.5 mm minijack input and a slightly delayed 12 V trigger output. To operate the optional Velodyne Acoustics Wi Connect System II for wireless signal transmission directly, there is also a 5 V / 1 A USB power output. The MiniVee-X is priced at £1395.00 inc VAT.
Martin Morecroft, Redline Distribution Managing Director, comments, “For a whole range of customers and applications, we think the Velodyne MiniVee-X is a fantastic choice. It has the pedigree to perform a multitude of tasks and do it from a small and very attractive footprint. As more and more end users understand the value of a good subwoofer, the MiniVee-X stands ready to impress and keep them coming back for more.”
