Daniel J SaitD-Tools and Portal.io have announced a merger that brings together two of the integration industry’s leading business software platforms, with the combined company aiming to create the next generation of tools for residential and commercial integrators.
The merger brings D-Tools’ established business management, system design and project management capabilities together with Portal.io’s proposal platform and managed product catalogue. The companies say the move will create the industry’s largest integrator software network, serving businesses ranging from single-operator companies to large enterprise operations.
G Paul Hess will continue as Chief Executive Officer of D-Tools, while Portal.io founder and CEO Kirk Chisholm becomes Chief Product Officer, responsible for product vision and strategy across the combined portfolio. Portal.io Chief Operating Officer Josh Willits becomes Head of Portal.io.
D-Tools and Portal.io have worked together for more than a decade, dating back to the integration of Portal.io’s managed product catalogue with D-Tools System Integrator (SI).
Under the new structure, the company will continue to offer three platforms: Portal.io, D-Tools Cloud and D-Tools System Integrator. Existing customers will remain on their current products and terms, with no forced migration and no plans to end-of-life any of the existing platforms.
The companies also intend to combine their extensive product data resources, bringing together D-Tools’ specifications and pricing information from thousands of manufacturer and distributor suppliers with Portal.io’s managed catalogue and manufacturer relationships.
AI will form another major part of the combined company’s future development strategy. Portal.io has already introduced an AI proposal builder, while D-Tools has been investing in AI capabilities across its platforms. The companies plan to apply AI more widely across sales, design, management and other integrator workflows.

The combined business will continue to serve the CEDIA and custom integration channels while expanding its presence across commercial AV, security and international integration markets.
D-Tools and Portal.io will both exhibit at CEDIA Expo 2026 in Denver in September, where visitors will be able to see product demonstrations and meet members of the joint leadership team.
