The Nest Cam is receiving an update that could put it on par with professional security cameras, thanks to its automatic detection of entryways and better notifications.
Nest is currently rolling out the update to its suite of apps, with the notification feature available on both iOS and Android. Uniquely, the Nest Cam app can now showcase an animated preview as to what is currently happening on the camera without forcing users to open the app. That’s through a feature Nest is calling ‘animated preview’, and could be especially useful when receiving a notification about a potential break-in.
The key feature with this update has to be the inclusion of automatic door detection. In previous versions of the software users were capable of setting trigger points in doorways, but with the latest update the Nest Cam can automatically detect where the entry points are. Nest says that it is able to do that thanks to a significant boost to the AI technology it has developed.
Alerts for Nest Cam owners get from Nest Protect are also being improved. Now, if Nest Protect warns a user of smoke or dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, there will automatically be live video from all the Nest Cams in the premises.
