Prove your humanity

It’s unlikely that the Echo Dot is the primary music listening device for any household, but that doesn’t mean Amazon doesn’t want to concentrate on audio quality for its affordable Alexa-enabled smart speaker. That’s why it has announced a refreshed model that features a slightly cleaner look, as well as a 70% boost in volume.

The new Amazon Echo Dot still boasts the same affordable price tag of £49.99, but rather than being surrounded solely in plastic, Amazon has decided to wrap fabric around the sides of the speaker. Thankfully the new fabric wrap makes it look far more aesthetically pleasing than the old Echo Dot that resembled a hockey puck.

It’s not just the redesigned exterior that is new, however. For those who thought the Echo Dot was too quiet and too tinny, then Amazon has found a solution. That’s because it has integrated a 1.6in driver that’s designed to deliver more powerful sound with lower distortion and enhanced bass. Amazon says that the new Echo Dot should be 70% louder than the old model.

While the current generation Echo Dot is still available on Amazon, the new model is already available to order. Those that order it now will get their new Echo Dot on October 11, when the device will be officially released. Thankfully there is also a new colour option available with this new model, meaning it’s no longer a choice of just black or white. Instead ‘Heather Grey’ is now an option.
