LG’s OLED TVs have been some of the most popular sets revealed at CES over the last couple of years, but this year the company has been praised universally for its 4K HDR offering.

Leading the OLED line-up is the 77 and 65in G6, while the 65 and 55in E6 models will be available to those with a more affordable budget in mind.

All of LG’s latest OLED TVs have been substantially upgraded with new technologies to distinguish themselves from last year’s models, as well as TVs from other manufacturers. Notably, LG is the only big manufacturer bringing new OLED models to CES this year, with Panasonic having already revealed its models at IFA 2015.

On the feature list for LG’s OLED TVs is a 4K resolution and HDR, which LG calls ‘HDR Pro’ on the G6 and E6, rather confusingly since the company announced its own technology earlier this week called ‘HDR-Plus’.

While LG does not spell out exactly what makes these TVs HDR Pro as opposed to HDR-Plus, the company has stated that the new TV line-up will support industry-standard HDR formats established by broadcasters, film studios and consumer electronics manufacturers. Dolby Vision and HDR10 are two such standards supported.

Even though LG’s OLED TVs have been praised for their deep blacks and vibrant colours already, HDR is said to make the picture brighter, bolder and more immersive than ever. It has even been approved by the UHD Alliance, like many TVs at CES 2016.

While HDR has been the big talk of CES 2016, OLED should further enhance the experience with its Pixel Dimming technology – which works on a pixel-by-pixel basis, as opposed to local dimming offered by the LED backlight.

The G6 and E6 are the first TVs from LG to feature the company’s Picture-On-Glass design, which boast an ultra-thin 2.57mm OLED panel with a translucent glass back and forward-facing sound bar speaker system.

With 10-bit panel and 10-bit processing power, LG’s OLED TVs have access to more than a billion possible colour options and ColorPrime Pro technology gives these TVs the ability to display the finest details of colour and gradation.

LG has really concentrated on the picture quality, but has also focused on making sure the TVs sound great too. To do that, the company has partnered with Harman/Kardon to produce a front-firing soundbar speaker system.

The speakers inside the soundbar are pointing forward rather than downward like many thin TVs, meaning viewers should clearly hear the sound without any distortion or reflection.

“Our 2016 OLED TV line-up features a long list of innovations, such as Picture-on-Glass design and HDR Pro which are prominent and key features in the G6 and E6 models,” notes Brian Kwon, president and CEO at LG’s Home Entertainment Company.

“By upping our OLED TV game every year, we are driving innovation in the TV space so that more consumers will see and hear about the benefits of owning an OLED TV. We think 2016 will be a game changer for this category.”

Both the LG G6 and E6 will begin their global rollout in March 2016.
