LG Music Flow speakers will soon be able to take part in a Chromecast Multiroom environment. That’s the official word from the company, which also notes that users will soon be able to control their speakers using the Google Home and the Google Assistant AI.
The Google Chromecast Multiroom functionality means that users are able to create a Sonos-like system using nothing but Chromecast compatible devices, or the Chromecast Audio. This means users are able to stream the same music to multiple rooms and multiple speakers, regardless of the brand.
Sonos and Bang & Olufsen speakers already work with Google Chromecast Multiroom, and can also be controlled using Google Home, but LG has until now not commented on the functionality. Thankfully, in its confirmation that company noted that users will begin to receive support ‘before the end of February’.
Google Chromecast Multiroom functionality is a key feature for many users who prefer to mix and match their AV gear. That’s because as long as it supports the Chromecast Multiroom functionality, it doesn’t matter if users send music to all LG devices or mix it up with a few Sonos speakers, a few LG and a few from Bang & Olufsen.
Google Home functionality also comes at an important time. Amazon’s Alexa AI is finding its way into more and more smart speakers, meaning if Google has any hope to catch up it needs its functionality to be able to control as many speakers as ever – and it seems that it’s already enjoying quite a large line-up.
LG’s Music Flow speakers are just the latest to receive Google Chromecast Multiroom support through a software update. Two months ago, Sony upgraded its SRS-X77, X88 and X99 Cast-enabled speakers with multiroom functionality, disappointing avid fans of the LG Music Flow range.
