Bluesound has announced the integration of Apple Music into its BluOS platform, giving users direct access to the streaming service across compatible wireless speakers, stereo components and soundbars.
Available through a free BluOS software update, the integration allows Apple Music subscribers to access more than 100 million songs directly through the BluOS Controller app, without relying on Apple AirPlay 2 or streaming from a smartphone or tablet.
The update supports a wide range of Bluesound products, including the PULSE FLEX wireless speaker, NODE music streamer and PULSE CINEMA soundbar. Importantly for the custom installation sector, Apple Music is also available on compatible BluOS-enabled products from NAD Electronics, PSB Speakers, DALI Loudspeakers, Cyrus and Monitor Audio.
Users can stream Apple Music in individual rooms, group multiple players together for synchronised whole-home listening or select different music for different zones. The integration also provides access to Apple Music’s personalised recommendations, curated playlists, artist-hosted shows and radio programming.
Matt Simmonds, Product Manager at Bluesound, says, “Bluesound has always been about music discovery and the freedom to enjoy their music their way, in every room they listen in. Adding Apple Music means even more listeners can bring the music they love to their Bluesound system, with the simplicity of the BluOS Controller app and the sound quality Bluesound is known for.”
For professional integrators, the addition represents a useful expansion of the BluOS ecosystem. Apple Music’s popularity means that clients increasingly expect their existing music subscriptions to work seamlessly with professionally installed audio systems.
Native integration also offers advantages over relying solely on AirPlay 2, particularly in multi-room installations. With music streamed directly by the player rather than routed through a mobile device, homeowners can control playback from the BluOS app while reducing their dependence on a phone or tablet.
The development also underlines the continuing importance of streaming service compatibility in the custom installation market. As homeowners become more invested in particular music platforms, the ability to accommodate their preferences without compromising the wider multi-room experience is increasingly valuable.
Apple Music support is available now through the latest BluOS software update for compatible devices. An active subscription is required.
