Denon Unveils The X Series AVRs

Denon has unveiled the next generation of its X Series AV receivers, introducing the AVR-X2900H and AVC-X3900H, two models designed to deliver higher levels of performance, precision and flexibility for home cinema enthusiasts and professional installers.

The new additions are aimed at users seeking greater refinement and scalability from their systems, as well as custom integrators requiring advanced calibration, flexible configuration and robust control options for dedicated cinema rooms and whole-home entertainment projects.

While the recently launched AVR-S980H is positioned as an accessible route into home cinema, the latest X Series models focus on delivering enhanced performance and deeper system customisation.

Denon’s X Series has always been about uncompromised performance,” says Lyle Smith, President of Sound United at HARMAN. “With our newest additions to the series, we’ve gone further by combining expanded room calibration capabilities with adaptable system designs to deliver enhanced audio quality and greater flexibility for people who take their sound seriously.”

Both models feature updated internal components and a 32-bit multi-channel DAC architecture, designed to improve imaging, high-frequency clarity and low-frequency performance across every channel. Denon says each receiver is developed and tuned at its Shirakawa Audio Works facility in Japan, following the company’s long-established sound tuning philosophy.

A key feature of the new range is support for both Audyssey and Dirac Live room correction technologies. Audyssey is included as standard for straightforward system setup, while optional Dirac Live upgrades provide more advanced tuning and optimisation capabilities for more complex installations.

The Denon AVR-X2900H delivers 95W per channel across seven channels and is positioned as a step-up solution for enthusiasts looking to move beyond entry-level AV receivers. The model supports immersive surround sound formats, advanced HDMI features and modern gaming technologies, alongside HEOS multiroom audio integration. Dirac Live Room Correction compatibility is also included, allowing users to upgrade system optimisation capabilities over time.

The Denon AVC-X3900H is designed for larger, more advanced home cinema systems, offering 9.4 channels of amplification, 11.4 channels of processing and 105W per channel. Four independent subwoofer outputs and expanded configuration options are intended to provide greater bass management and room optimisation flexibility.

The model also supports optional Dirac Live Bass Control and Active Room Treatment (ART) upgrades, giving installers and advanced users access to more detailed system calibration tools. Denon says the receiver is engineered to deliver long-term reliability and flexibility for premium cinema environments.

Shared features across both models include IP-based Web UI setup, advanced HDMI diagnostics and expanded control interfaces designed to simplify system installation and optimisation.

The receivers also integrate the HEOS multiroom audio platform, enabling streaming via Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay 2 and services including Spotify, Qobuz and TuneIn Internet Radio. Denon says the platform allows the home cinema system to operate as part of a larger whole-home audio ecosystem without locking users into a closed platform.

Denon has also confirmed that both models will support optional wireless surround functionality with Denon Home 200, 400 and 600 speakers via a future firmware update, aimed at installations where running speaker cable is impractical.

The AVR-X2900H and AVC-X3900H feature expanded HDMI connectivity, 1440p pass-through support and AMD FreeSync compatibility, helping ensure compatibility with evolving gaming and entertainment technologies.

The Denon AVR-X2900H and AVC-X3900H will be available from May 14, 2026 via Denon and authorised retailers worldwide.

Pricing is set at £899 for the AVR-X2900H and £1299 for the AVC-X3900H.
