Lewis CaliburnQ Acoustics has introduced the compact 3040c floorstanding speaker after responding to demand for a more compact and agile floorstanding speaker – at an accessible price point.
As the final piece in the 3000c loudspeaker series, the 3040c completes Q Acoustics’ most affordable speaker range – bringing the performance, design and technological advances of the series to listeners seeking a sleek floorstanding option for more intimate surroundings.
At the heart of the 3040c and the 3000c series is Q Acoustics’ acclaimed driver, cabinet and acoustic innovation.
Like its 3000c family members, the 3040c boasts Q Acoustics’ core driver platform: C3 (pronounced ‘C-cubed’) Continuous Curved Cone mid/bass profile. The manufacturer highlights that the C3 driver represents a rare breakthrough in loudspeaker driver design, by combining the powerful bass response of a traditional straight conic cone with the superior midrange clarity and high-frequency control of a flared cone.
The result is twin 4.75-inch C3 mid/bass drivers deliver a controlled bass performance, expressive midrange and smoother integration with the high frequency driver.
Inspired by the brand’s flagship Concept series, the 3040c tweeter features a “floating” design that is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated from the baffle. By reducing internal pressure and mid/bass vibrations from colouring the high frequencies, this design, combined with a vented inner chamber, achieves ultra-low distortion.
Internally, the 3040c works hard to ensure music is enjoyed at any volume, from intimate late-night listening sessions to energetic weekend playlists. P2P (Point to Point) bracing is fitted to internal areas of the cabinet prone to low-end frequency vibrations. This reinforcement delivers a more focused stereo image, and a wider, better-controlled soundstage.
The 3040c is, like all floorstanding loudspeakers, vulnerable to internal build-up of pressure that causes unwanted standing waves and colouration. To prevent this occurring, specially designed HPE (Helmholtz Pressure Equalisers) tubes are fitted inside the cabinet to nullify internal pressure and improve frequency response.
Attention to industrial design also plays a key role in the 3040c experience. Clean lines, Q Acoustics’ signature curved profile, premium finishes and understated detailing ensure the speaker integrates naturally into modern interiors.
With no visible joints or bolts, the 3040c embraces the minimalist aesthetic, elegantly fronted by a one-piece satin nickel and satin chrome (white mode) driver trim. Four sophisticated finishes – Satin Black, Satin White, Pink Oak and Claro Walnut – are sympathetic to all interior styles for a seamless match.
Like its bigger brother, the 3050c, the 3040c features a solid aluminium stabiliser design, with top-adjustable spikes for easy levelling. Additionally, the entire range inherits the 5000 series’ low-profile terminal panel, complete with recessed binding posts that allow for neat, close-to-wall placement – a valuable feature for those seeking that big sound in tighter spaces.
