Chord Company has launched the PhonoARAY, a high-performance earthing system designed to improve turntable performance by minimising electromagnetic interference.
Chord Company, which is celebrating 40 years of UK manufacturing (1985-2025), has introduced the PhonoARAY, a standalone filtering solution that enhances earthing for turntables and other sensitive audio devices. The system enables users to ground their turntable to the phono stage or amplifier phono input, reducing interference and improving signal clarity.
The PhonoARAY incorporates a hand-wound, ultra-high-current series filter alongside a proprietary ARAY system, creating a double ‘virtual earth system’ that shields the signal from external noise. This results in cleaner, more detailed sound reproduction, says the company.
Flexible installation options
The unit features two high-quality 4mm speaker-style terminals, compatible with banana and spade connections. It connects the turntable (or tonearm) earth terminal to the phono stage (or amplifier phono input) using a dedicated 50cm screened earth cable (4mm connector to spade connector).
It can be used with turntables that have built-in or external phono stages and a second PhonoARAY can be added to further connect the phono stage earth to the amplifier earth in complex setups.
Built for performance
The PhonoARAY is housed in a thick-walled aluminium billet enclosure for electrical and acoustic isolation. Resin filling inside the unit helps reduce microphony, while lightweight, decoupled isolation feet minimise vibrations.
Chord Company has been developing signal protection technologies for 40 years, from its early shielding solutions to the GroundARAY, PowerARAY and PowerHAUS mains distribution blocks.
