Monitor Audio Introduces New Range of Fire Hoods

Monitor Audio has introduced a new range of Fire Hoods designed specifically for its Creator Series In-Ceiling and In-Wall architectural speakers.

The four-model range provides installers with a dedicated solution for maintaining the fire performance of ceilings and walls following the installation of an architectural speaker, while also offering potential acoustic benefits.

Designed to meet relevant UK and EU building regulation requirements, the Fire Hoods address an important consideration when installing speakers into fire-rated structures. Cutting an aperture for an in-ceiling or in-wall speaker can compromise the fire performance of the original construction, potentially creating a route for the spread of fire and smoke.

Installed around the rear of the speaker, the Fire Hood is designed to reinstate protection around the aperture and maintain the fire integrity of the ceiling or wall.

As architectural speakers become increasingly common across new-build and retrofit projects, Monitor Audio says addressing fire protection at the point of installation is an increasingly important consideration for installers, architects and specifiers.

The new range comprises four models – CS-FH, CML-FH, WM-FH and WL-FH – covering the complete Monitor Audio Creator Series range of In-Ceiling and In-Wall architectural speakers.

Providing a purpose-designed solution from the same manufacturer as the speaker also allows installers to specify the speaker and associated fire protection as a complete system.

In addition to their primary fire-protection function, the Fire Hoods can provide acoustic benefits. Their construction helps reduce sound transmission into spaces above or behind the speaker, while creating a semi-sealed air volume around the rear of the speaker that can contribute to improved bass performance and dynamics.

The new Fire Hoods strengthen the Creator Series proposition by providing installers with an integrated approach to architectural speaker installation that combines performance, protection and compliance.
