HKC Security has announced a new integration with Takex’s Connected Vape Sensor, a discreet detection solution designed to tackle the growing challenge of vaping and smoking in restricted environments or where odours impact on the quality of the environment.

Developed in collaboration with Takex, a globally recognised manufacturer of high-performance detection technologies, the new sensor combines Takex’s sensing expertise with HKC’s intruder alarm platform. The partnership provides installers and end users with reliable detection integrated into a smart, connected security ecosystem.

The VS-1000E Connected Vape Sensor delivers real-time detection of vaping and smoking using a high-sensitivity particle sensor that adapts to environmental conditions to minimise false alarms while maintaining fast and dependable detection.

Designed for restrooms, corridors and restricted zones, the sensor is suitable for environments where safety, compliance and air quality are important considerations.

When connected to the HKC system via an RF transmitter, the sensor enables centralised monitoring and instant notifications through the SecureComm app, allowing staff to respond quickly. Integrated audio-visual alerts also provide immediate on-site notification when vaping or smoking is detected, helping to deter unwanted behaviour and support enforcement policies.

Designed with installers in mind, the device has a low upfront cost with no requirement for additional apps or annual licence fees. Installation features include push-fit terminals, twist-lock mounting and daisy-chain wiring for fast and efficient installation.

Additional features include adjustable sensitivity, configurable alarm outputs, a self-cleaning function and built-in self-diagnostics to support long-term reliability and adaptability across different environments. The solution also avoids the privacy concerns associated with camera-based monitoring, providing a discreet alternative.

Paul Fitzgerald, Managing Director at HKC, says: “By bringing together Takex’s trusted detection technology with the HKC platform, the Connected Vape Sensor represents a smart, future-proof solution for modern environments. As organisations continue to tackle the challenges associated with vaping, HKC provides a dependable way to maintain safer, cleaner spaces without compromising privacy or operational efficiency.”

It is also worth noting that while smoking rates have fallen significantly in the UK over recent decades, that does not mean the need for effective detection has disappeared.

Instead, the challenge has shifted. The rapid growth of vaping, particularly among younger people, presents environments with a different set of monitoring and enforcement issues. For the security and integration sectors, solutions such as this demonstrate how established detection technologies can evolve to address changing behaviour and create a potentially important new area of opportunity.
