TVD Group celebrates 30 years in business and 10 years of Mitchell & Brown

TVD Group is celebrating 30 years in business and a decade of its British TV brand, Mitchell & Brown, marking two major milestones for a company that has grown from a family-run television business into one of the UK’s most established independent AV technology groups.

Over those three decades, TVD Group has generated more than £342 million in cumulative turnover, sold over 1.5 million products, completed more than 200,000 installations and supported customers across over 60,000 client sites.

Yet behind those numbers is a simple philosophy that has remained unchanged since the company was founded in 1996: great customer service.

Today, that philosophy runs through every part of TVD Group. It underpins TVC Technology Solutions’ approach to commercial AV specification, installation and ongoing support, Mitchell & Brown’s decade-long commitment to independent electrical retailers and the Group’s UK-based customer service operation, which has handled more than 45,000 service calls.

For Managing Director Lucia Maguire, the 30th anniversary is about much more than celebrating the business’s longevity. “Thirty years in business has shown that what customers remember is whether you gave them good advice, whether you answered the phone and whether you were there when they needed help,” says Lucia.

“That philosophy started with the Brown family in 1996 and it runs through TVD Group today. Whether we’re supporting an independent retailer selling a Mitchell & Brown television or delivering a major AV installation for a national hospitality customer, our job is fundamentally the same: understand what the customer needs, deliver it properly and support them afterwards.”

TVD Group’s story began in 1996 as a family television business founded by Jim Brown and his sons, Matthew and Daniel. Over the following three decades, CRT televisions would disappear, flat-panel displays would transform both domestic and commercial markets, analogue broadcasting would give way to digital and connected Smart TVs, while commercial AV would evolve into today’s world of UHD displays, digital signage, video walls, direct-view LED and fully integrated audio-visual environments.

TVD evolved alongside that technology but retained the service-led approach of its independent retail origins. Today, the company’s TVC Technology Solutions brand is an established UK commercial AV integrator for the hospitality, leisure and entertainment sectors, designing, installing and supporting systems for customers across the country.

Its projects have included installations for brands and venues including Hollywood Bowl, F1 Arcade, Genting Casinos and Europe’s largest indoor racket sports venue, Racketeer, alongside national and multi-site deployments for customers throughout hospitality, leisure, retail, betting and gaming and other commercial sectors.

TVD Group’s second anniversary in 2026 is equally significant. Launched in 2016, Mitchell & Brown celebrates its 10th birthday this year in November, marking a decade in which the British television brand has established a strong following among independent electrical retailers and their customers.

Rather than treating independent retailers as just another route to market, the company built its distribution strategy around supporting them. Mitchell & Brown televisions are available through independent electrical retailers, backed by UK-based customer support, knowledgeable sales and technical teams and the brand’s seven-year warranty.

Having started life in independent television retail, TVD understands both the pressures facing today’s independent dealers and the advantages they can offer consumers: knowledgeable advice, personal service and support that continues long after a television has left the showroom.

Over its first decade, the brand has developed a broad range of televisions specifically for the UK market, from compact sets for kitchens, bedrooms and motorhomes through to large-screen Smart TVs featuring the latest connected TV platforms. Throughout that expansion, its relationship with independent retail has remained central to the brand.

“Independent retailers represent many of the things TVD Group believes in,” adds Lucia. “They know their customers, they understand the products they sell and, crucially, they’re there when somebody needs help. Ten years later, we’re incredibly proud of what the brand and our retail partners have achieved together. More importantly, we remain every bit as committed to championing independent electrical retail for the next decade.”

Thirty years after it began as a family enterprise, TVD Group has also put in place a structure designed to preserve that culture for its next chapter. In 2024 the company transitioned to majority employee ownership, giving the people responsible for its customer relationships, installations, technical support and day-to-day operations a direct stake in the company’s future.

For Lucia, that makes the anniversary as much about the next 30 years as the three decades already completed. “Thirty years is a wonderful milestone, and 10 years of Mitchell & Brown makes 2026 particularly special. But we’re very much celebrating 30 years young. Being employee-owned gives everyone across the company a stake in what happens next, and there is a great deal more we want to achieve.”
