French loudspeaker specialist Triangle has expanded its Borea range with the BR05, a large-format standmount speaker built around a new 21 cm midwoofer.
At the heart of the Borea BR05 is a new 21 cm midwoofer developed specifically for this model. Triangle’s engineers focused not just on low-frequency power, but also on midrange quality.
Its cone is made from 100% natural cellulose pulp, an emblematic Triangle material. The untreated paper texture gives voices and instruments a sense of texture and presence, while the cone profile and dust cap are tuned to balance scale with finesse. A re-engineered dust cap and suspension keep excursion under control for deeper, tighter bass.
The motor features a 120 mm ferrite magnet and 40 mm voice coil, while a rigid, open basket promotes airflow and heat dissipation to help the BR05 stay composed during dynamic passages.
The Borea signature 25 mm silk dome EFS (Efficient Flow System) tweeter, complete with phase plug, delivers homogeneous high-frequency dispersion and a precise soundstage.
The BR05’s cabinet is designed to let its large driver perform. High-density MDF panels up to 21 mm thick provide rigidity, while Triangle’s exclusive DVAS (Driver Vibration Absorption System) uses a high-density EVA foam gasket to connect the rear of the motor to an internal brace, dissipating mechanical energy before it reaches the cabinet. Two additional internal braces reduce unwanted resonance for more natural, dynamic and faithful sound.
A double bass-reflex port spreads airflow over a larger area, reducing turbulence and port noise at high levels for clearer, more stable bass. With both ports firing forwards, the BR05 is less sensitive to distance from the rear wall and easier to position in a real room.
The second-order crossover operates at 1.7 kHz with a 12 dB/octave slope. It uses large-gauge air-core inductors, polyester film capacitors and cement resistors, wired with high-purity oxygen-free copper (OFC), for a transparent, phase-coherent response. Bi-wire and bi-amp-compatible binding posts offer flexibility for system configuration.
The BR05 pairs wood-toned cabinets with solid-colour front panels and matching driver rubbers. Light Oak and Black Ash are joined by three other finishes: Chestnut, Green and Frosted White. Removable magnetic grilles let owners choose the look.
The supplied base tilts the speaker back by 8° towards the listener to improve soundstage coherence, while maintaining a discreet visual footprint. Alternatively, optional S03 stands, available in Black or White, raise the BR05 to listening height. The 8° tilt is maintained in both configurations.
The Triangle Borea BR05 are available to order from authorised Triangle retailers, with a suggested retail price per pair of £729/€749/999, with the S03 stands at an SRP of £225/€249/299 per pair.
UK retailers will include Richer Sounds, AV.com, Kronos AV and Premium Sound.
