Prove your humanity

Crestron has joined Insteon in offering an Apple Watch App for those wanting to join the latest craze in wearables.

Customers began receiving the Apple Watch late last week, with thousands of Apps already available for the platform.

Crestron’s App is perfect for those wanting to control the company’s home automation system directly from their wrist.

While Crestron has previously supported Apple’s iPhone and iPad, the Apple Watch support should help those not wanting to dig around in their pocket for their smartphone, much similar to digging around for your keys.

With the Crestron Apple Watch App, customers can unlock their door with just a tap of the wrist, control lights, adjust the air conditioning or do just about anything within the limitations of the system.

Even when the iPhone is out of the room, the Apple Watch will still be capable of controlling the Crestron system, thanks to its ability to connect to a WiFi network, unlike early versions of Android Wear, Google’s wearable platform.

“We’re excited to bring home automation to wearable technology,” says Tim Hymans, Crestron EMEA marketing director.

“Our App delivers a new level of convenience so customers can monitor their home systems at a glance or control their home technology effortlessly using presets. We’ve made it even easier to always stay connected to your home.”

Crestron’s Apple Watch App does have some limitations, with the company allowing only 10 custom controls at any one time, although customers can customise the interface to fit their needs.

Integrators won’t find it difficult to set up the Apple Watch experience either, with it still using the SIMPL programming language used for other platforms, as well as the ‘Spectacular Smart Graphics’ technology.

Crestron has yet to set a release date for its Apple Watch App, although has promised that it’s coming soon.
