Sonos has introduced the Sonos Play and the Sonos Era 100 SL speakers, which have been created with the aim to make it easier for users to start a Sonos system and expand it room by room.
“Much of consumer tech promises innovation, yet too often delivers isolation — new devices replacing old ones instead of building on what already works,” says Tom Conrad, Chief Executive Officer of Sonos. “We believe a great sound experience shouldn’t reset every time you add something new. It should get better. Sonos Play and Era 100 SL are a clear expression of what Sonos does best: creating products that feel simple on the surface, but are deeply powerful because of the system behind them.”
According to the company, the Sonos Play is designed as a highly versatile speaker capable of delivering rich stereo sound both at home and on the move. When connected over WiFi it integrates into the Sonos ecosystem, allowing users to group music across rooms or create a stereo pair.
A wireless charging base anchors the speaker in the home, while a removable utility loop and built-in battery make it suitable for portable use. The speaker offers up to 24 hours of playback and features a durable IP67-rated waterproof design. It also includes a built-in power bank capable of charging a smartphone.
The company says the Sonos Play introduces a new capability for its portable range. When connected to a phone via Bluetooth, users can synchronise multiple compatible speakers directly by pressing and holding the play/pause button on up to three additional Sonos Play or Sonos Move 2 speakers. Automatic Trueplay tuning then adapts the sound dynamically to the listening environment.
Sustainability has also been considered in the design, with the company highlighting optimised power management and a replaceable battery intended to extend the product’s usable lifespan. Control options include voice services, the Sonos app, Spotify Connect and Apple AirPlay 2, allowing music and devices to be managed from a single interface.
The Sonos Era 100 SL, meanwhile, offers a simplified route into the Sonos ecosystem. Featuring a mic-free design and a streamlined feature set, the speaker focuses on delivering room-filling sound as a standalone unit while maintaining the ability to expand into a larger system over time.
According to the company, the model can easily be used as part of a stereo pair, placed in additional rooms or incorporated into a home cinema system as a user’s setup grows.
“We believe the first speaker you bring home should sound complete on its own and become even better as your Sonos system grows,” says Chris Kallai, VP of Product Creation at Sonos. “Sonos Play and Era 100 SL offer two distinct ways to shape a listening experience that fits how people actually live, while making it simple to add new rooms, new moments and new possibilities over time.”
Sonos says the wider platform continues to evolve through ongoing software updates, expanding compatibility and products designed to work across multiple generations.
The Sonos Play and Sonos Era 100 SL are available for pre-order to end users from March 10, 2026 at Sonos.com and selected retail partners, with general availability beginning March 31, 2026.
