Bang & Olufsen has unveiled the final two editions in its five-part Atelier centenary series: Beolab 90 Monarch Edition and Beolab 90 Zenith Edition. Following the Titan, Shadow and Mirage Editions, these creations transform the flagship loudspeaker through shaped wood, polished aluminium and carefully assembled details.
The Beolab 90 Monarch Edition features angled and curved rosewood lamellas following the contours of the aluminium cabinet, six wooden knots which connect the lamellas, with the front knot featuring a subtle light-through-wood stripe that adds dimension and visual interest, while a solid rosewood top ring frames the speaker, while lower base panels continue the lamella pattern.
The contrast between the warm rosewood and ochre-coloured aluminium crowns highlights the balance of natural and engineered materials., while the semi-transparent fabric sections offer glimpses of the acoustic drivers behind.
Meanwhile, the Beolab 90 Zenith Edition has been designed with a focus on textural precision and sculptural form, drawing on Bang & Olufsen’s Atelier craftsmanship. The speaker incorporates thousands of aluminium spheres alongside subtle mother-of-pearl inlays, creating a tactile and visually distinctive finish.
Six panels each feature 289 anodised aluminium spheres, arranged in seven bespoke pearl-inspired colours. This “pearl architecture” creates a reflective surface that interacts with light and its surroundings.
The machined aluminium facemask has been pearl-blasted and anodised in a dark grey finish, designed to resemble the appearance of an oyster shell.
At the top of the speaker, a circular mother-of-pearl inlay, matched to the diameter of the aluminium spheres, provides a focal point that complements the overall design.
The panels are curved to follow the contours of the cabinet, integrating the textured surfaces with the speaker’s architectural form. Polished aluminium elements and semi-transparent fabric complete the design, balancing visual and acoustic considerations while unifying the overall aesthetic.
Beolab 90 Monarch and Zenith Edition complete Bang & Olufsen’s five-part series of Anniversary Editions, joining the Shadow, Mirage and Titan Editions as distinct expressions of Atelier craftsmanship created to mark the brand’s centenary.
Each edition preserves Beolab 90’s defining acoustic performance — powered by 18 bespoke drivers and advanced beam-forming technology — while introducing new interpretations of texture, light, colour and form.
Produced in a limited series of 10 pairs per edition, each speaker is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and, when ordered, collectors receive a miniature aluminum Beolab 90 sculpture in the corresponding edition, presented in a custom aluminum delivery box.
Following the debut of the Shadow and Mirage Editions at Bang & Olufsen’s San Francisco Culture Store in December, the Beolab 90 Monarch and Zenith Editions are now set to make their first public appearance at the same location. The store, which is the largest Bang & Olufsen showroom in the world, will host these next editions as they begin their global tour, offering discerning clients an intimate encounter with the pinnacle of acoustic artistry.
