Prove your humanity

PlayStation 4 owners across the world will be able to enjoy HDR content on their devices from September 13, Sony has confirmed. During the PlayStation 4 Pro event the company teased that all PlayStation 4s will get the HDR capability, but now Sony is revealing even more details about the upcoming update.

Landing on September 13 the version 4.0 update will open up new visual enhancements to PlayStation 4 gamers. According to Sony, not only will users be able to enjoy gaming content in HDR, but they will also be able to enjoy HDR content from the likes of Netflix and Amazon Video. Of course, an HDR-compatible display will need to be present too.

Alongside the new HDR addition, Sony has also made it easier to enjoy playing music from the PlayStation 4. Through the inclusion of music in the quick menu, users are now able to discover, play and control Spotify without opening the App directly. The music section will also be able to recommend playlists based on the games currently being played, allowing users one touch access to millions of songs.

While those additions will be welcome news for PlayStation 4 owners who intend on keeping their current consoles, Sony has also added one major feature that should make it easier for those wishing to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 Pro. In version 4.0 Sony has included a new fast and easy way to transfer data from an old PlayStation 4 to a new one using nothing but a wired LAN connection. Using this new data transfer method, PlayStation 4 owners can transfer games, user info and saved data to a new PlayStation without the fuss waiting for stuff to download through the cloud.

The PlayStation 4 update should begin rolling out on September 13 to all PlayStation 4 owners.
