Sonos introduces Amp Multi

Sonos announces Amp Multi, a new multi-channel streaming amplifier designed to simplify and scale complex residential audio installations.

Developed in close collaboration with professional integrators, Amp Multi extends the Sonos platform into larger and more sophisticated homes while retaining the simplicity and sound quality the brand is known for.

The launch responds to growing demand from installers working with open-plan layouts and multi-use spaces, where systems must adapt as designs evolve. Amp Multi is positioned as a flexible solution that supports changing requirements without adding complexity for installers or homeowners, says the company.

Amp Multi features eight amplified outputs delivering 125 watts each, with support for up to four configurable zones. This allows professionals to design systems that align with how clients use their homes, while also supporting future expansion.

“Sonos Amp is the most widely used two-channel streaming amplifier in residential installation because it’s powerful, dependable and intuitive,” says Tom Conrad, CEO of Sonos. “Amp Multi takes that same philosophy and applies it to larger systems. It makes ambitious designs more efficient to build and install and easier to live with.”

Designed specifically for professional workflows, Amp Multi allows any output to be assigned to any zone, with systems scaling simply by adding additional units. Each output can drive up to three Sonos Architectural speakers, enabling high-density installations across multiple rooms or spaces without compromising stability or sound quality, says the company.

At its core, Amp Multi uses a highly efficient gallium nitride power architecture combined with Class-D post-filter feedback. According to Sonos, this approach delivers clean, controlled sound while improving thermal efficiency, allowing the amplifier to operate silently without fans and remain stable during long-term use.

Amp Multi also introduces several installer-focused features. Setup is streamlined through a unique audible chirp emitted by each unit when triggered from the Sonos app, removing the need for manual PIN entry and reducing rack identification time. The app enables more efficient management of zones, sources and outputs, while maintaining a simple experience for homeowners, says the company.

Advanced tuning capabilities are introduced through ProTune, a new manual optimisation tool that gives integrators granular control over each output. This includes a 10-band parametric EQ, gain adjustment, width control and delay offset, allowing systems to be fine-tuned for challenging room layouts and speaker placement. Optimise Sonos Speakers provides detailed DSP profiles for Sonos Architectural speakers.

The hardware design reflects rack-based installation requirements. Amp Multi uses a 1.5U chassis and can be paired with a dedicated 2U rack mount, sold separately, which creates built-in ventilation space above and below each unit. Sonos says this removes the need for additional vent panels while supporting clean cable management and silent operation. A flat-back design and recessed connectors allow the unit to stand upright during installation, with the full process requiring only eight screws.

“We created Amp Multi with integrators at the heart of every decision, drawing on their understanding of real-world installation challenges,” says Chris Heintzelman, VP of Product at Sonos. “The goal is to reduce friction at every stage of a project, from installation and setup to system tuning, while keeping the system approachable for the people who live with it every day.”

Sonos positions Amp Multi as a scalable platform for ambitious residential projects, combining integrated hardware and software with broad streaming service support and third-party control system compatibility, says the company.

Amp Multi is available globally through Sonos installation partners in the coming months.
