When is 4K not okay? When 8K exists of course, and at IFA, that’s exactly what Skyworth is showing off.
At 16 times the resolution of 1080p Full HD, Skyworth’s TV promises to deliver the best visuals money can buy – although there’s one catch, this TV is not for sale.
Measuring a whopping 98in, Skyworth’s TV is just a proof of concept for now, although the company is obviously interested to see what reaction it gets from consumers on the show floor.
Speaking to Recombu, Skyworth’s team leader for overseas marketing, claimed that the TV would cost around $20,000 (£14,570) if it was to go on sale in today’s market.
For those with experience of early 4K TVs, or flagship products from the likes of Samsung and LG – that’s not that much more money to pay for the privilege of 8K.
Skyworth has said that it is planning on launching its TVs outside of its homeland, China, in the near future but its first product will consist of a 55in 4K TV measuring 7mm thin, and boasting smart home features.
Pricing for that TV, from the G9200 Air Series, is set to be around $1,500 (£1,340).
