Jordan O'BrienWhile all Samsung SUHD TVs will support SmartThings, the company is not relying on smart home integration as the TVs biggest selling point – as the company has revealed further details about its 2016 line-up.
Samsung’s 2016 SUHD TVs feature the world’s only cadmium-free, 10-bit Quantum dot display, a technology the Korean tech giant claims offers ‘the most true-to-life picture quality, with stunning brightness, exceptional contrast and the most lifelike colours ever offered by Samsung’.
While the Quantum dot display technology sounds ultra-futuristic, one of the most exciting things from Samsung’s CES 2016 press conference was the announcement of a bezel-less Curved TV, the KS9500.
Along with ditching the bezels, Samsung has also ditched the screws in the back of the TV, as the company continues its quest ‘to create an elegant product that is beautiful from every angle’.
“Our new SUHD TVs represent our singular focus on innovation that matters most to consumers, by providing the very best picture quality for the home,” says Hyun Suk Kim, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.
“In 2016, we’re going beyond anything we’ve done before to offer a remarkable synergy of design, engineering and craftsmanship.”
Also on the feature list for its 2016 TVs is HDR – with Samsung promising 1,000 nit HDR minimum for a higher level of contrast between light and dark images.
New Ultra Black technology is also said to significantly reduce light reflection, further enhancing picture quality with minimal glare. It works by absorbing natural light the same way a moth’s eye enables it to see better at night.
Samsung has yet to reveal details regarding pricing or availability; it has even omitted the model names of the vast majority of its 2016 line-up.
