Philips is realising the dream it created with Ambilight; extending the technology to deliver more realistic colours, motion and even images.
Ambilight always had the limitations of being simple LED lights beamed onto the surface behind the TV, and while it attempted to extend the colours on the TV, it was never all too realistic.
Now, Philips has revealed a new technology called Ambilux which should create the most immersive experience of any TV.
Through the use of nine pico projectors, Ambilux is able to extend the image beyond the confines of the screen’s border, past the slim bezel and onto the wall behind.
By blending what’s on the 65in 4K TV screen and the wall behind, Philips is hoping that viewers become completely immersed in whatever they are watching.
It is not just limited to movies and TV shows however, as Ambilux will also work with music.
Using Ambilight Music Mode, the TV will create a halo around itself that reacts to the sound of the music.
It’s not just limited to local sources either, as it will also work with Spotify streaming or music channels.
In music mode, users will be able to choose a certain colour to give the song some ambience, or opt for ‘party mode’ which will randomly select colours.
Along with the Ambilux technology, the Philips 65PUS8901 runs Android TV – an OS Philips has become known for.
Utilising the Android 5.1 L operating system, Philips is able to leverage thousands of Apps and games available on the Google Play Store.
Philips has equipped the first Ambilux TV with 16GB of storage and a quad-core processor to take advantage of this large library.
No release date has been announced as of yet.
