Netgear and the SDVoE Alliance will be showing off the world’s first ethernet switch with integrated HDMI at ISE 2019. That means that the Netgear M4300-96X 10G Modular Managed Switch can work directly with in-rack video sources and destinations, effectively killing the need for a traditional matrix switch.
There are several benefits that the Netgear M4300-96X 10G Modular Managed Switch could bring to an installation, with the biggest amongst them being the reduction in cost. Now, instead of needing to buy an ethernet switch and a standalone encoder and decoder, installers could just purchase Netgear’s Ethernet switch, and have everything done through the one device. That also has the added benefit of simplifying the design and installation of the project.
“SDVoE is transforming the matrix by replacing the expensive ‘big iron’ at the core of a matrix switching system with an efficient Ethernet switch,” said Justin Kennington, president of the SDVoE Alliance.
“The last advantage for the traditional matrix switch was its ability to support native HDMI for in-rack sources. This new class of product, leveraging Netgear’s unique modular Ethernet switch, eliminates any benefit to the old matrix switch. And now let’s talk about density – 48 to 96 ports, with any mix of inputs and outputs in 2 RU. Your inflexible 32×32 matrix is at least five times that size.”
Installers opting to use Netgear’s SDVoE-ready M4300-96X Modular Managed Switch in their installation will find that it is already preconfigured out of the box for true AV and multicast Zero Touch network configuration. That means it’s possible to simply select the combination of HDMI, copper, PoE+ and fibre M4300-96X port expansion cards that fit requirements, insert the cards, connect SDVoE encoders and decoders, and power on the switch.
SDVoE systems with symmetric input-output configurations are supported such as 48×48, but asymmetric solutions such as 24×72 are just as easily accommodated.
Those excited to see the Netgear M4300-96X Modular Managed Switch will get their first opportunity at ISE 2019 in Amsterdam on the SDVoE Alliance stand.
