AliceVia a firmware update, Oppo’s UDP-203 and UDP-205 Ultra HD Blu-ray players now officially support Dolby Vision. This new firmware makes the OPPO UDP-203 and UDP-205 the first Blu-ray Disc players to support Dolby Vision .To make use of the feature, users will need to have a compatible TV and Dolby Vision Blu-ray content.
The OPPO UDP-203 and UDP-205 support the playback of 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs as well as regular Blu-ray and DVD. Packing a resolution of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels, UHD Blu-ray delivers four times the pixels of regular Blu-ray. Prior to the Dolby Vision upgrade, the UDP-203/205 already supported HDR10 (High Dynamic Range) and Wide Colour Gamut.

Customers who already have an Internet connection set up for their players can directly upgrade by answering the player’s prompt on their TV screen, or from the player’s setup menu. Customers who do not connect their players to the Internet can visit OPPO Digital’s web site and download the firmware file or request a firmware CD. The UDP-203 and UDP-205 are also available for purchase at OPPO Digital’s web site and from OPPO’s authorised retailers and custom installers.
Oppo 203 and 205 owners outside the US should be able to download the Dolby Vision firmware update to their players directly from June 8 onwards – if those players are connected to the Internet. Alternatively, users can download the file to a USB stick from Oppo’s regional websites.
Users shouldn’t despair if they haven’t got their hands on a Dolby Vision TV yet though, as they can still experience a HDR10 picture from a Dolby Vision Ultra HD Blu-ray disc when played on an Oppo 203 or 205 player.
Other key features as a result of this upgrade include added sharpness adjustment support for the 4K resolution, improved HDMI audio stability when using an HDMI Split A/V connection and new colour depth info display of the HDMI In port to 8b/10b/12b instead of 24b/30b/36b.
Dolby Vision-capable TVs are available from LG, TCL, Philips (in the US only), Vizio and (following a firmware update later this year) Sony.
