Jordan O'BrienOnkyo network AV receivers are set to receive DTS:X support through a firmware update that is scheduled to roll out to select 2015 and 2016 models on August 31.
DTS:X is a 3D object-based surround sound format similar to Dolby Atmos and Auro 3D. The difference with DTS:X however is the fact that installers needn’t follow a specific guideline for installing the speakers.
The DTS:X update for Onkyo network AV receivers was initially announced for the last quarter of 2015, but the company has stated that the official release of the software will be made available on August 31, 2016.
The firmware update is supported on the following Onkyo products:
2016-model Network A/V Receivers
• TX-NR555, TX-NR656, HT-R695, TX-RZ710, and TX-RZ810
2015-model Network A/V Receivers
• TX-NR646, TX-NR747, TX-RZ800, and TX-RZ900
With the addition of DTS:X, Onkyo AV receivers now support a wide range of surround sound formats. The models already support Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD.
