Fyne Audio Launching F704SP At Munich High-End Expo

Scotland’s Fyne Audio has announced the company will be launching the new flagship of its F700SP loudspeaker range, the F704SP (Special Production) at the Munich High-end Expo from Thursday, May 15. This UK-built loudspeaker is said to combine the authoritative power and exhilarating dynamics of the original F704 with extensive refinements and sonic enhancements trickled down from the elite F1 Series. The F704SP represents Fyne’s latest statement in contemporary loudspeaker design.

Engineered to deliver the musical engagement of live music from any recording, the F704SP is based on Fyne Audio’s signature 300mm IsoFlare point source driver. Developed alongside the 300mm driver featured in the F1-12S, this IsoFlare integrates a 12in multi-fibre bass/midrange cone with Fyne’s signature 3in (75mm) titanium dome compression tweeter time-aligned to the larger cone at the driver’s centre.

This point source configuration is driven by multiple motor systems featuring a neodymium magnet for the HF and a large ferrite for the main cone. The conductive nature of the neodymium magnet in the HF system reduces distortion by damping voice coil inductance losses, resulting in accurate frequency response and improved high frequency performance. The substantial ferrite motor ensures the larger LF cone offers strong excursion range for the LF driver while tightly controlling the voice coil for incredibly tight, fast, dynamic bass.

To further extend the lower frequency response and enable high sensitivity (96dB/W) of the overall loudspeaker, the F704SP integrates a second 300mm/12in bass driver, featuring the same lightweight multi-fibre cone, ferrite motor and FyneFlute roll surround as its partnering IsoFlare.

The F704SP cabinet is described as a work of curved contemporary art. Meticulously crafted from pressed high density European birch plywood and featuring extensive internal bracing, the substantial enclosure offers unsurpassed rigidity for its large internal volume. The enclosure incorporates the unique twin cavity loading system. Initially pioneered by Fyne Audio on the F1-10, the system also includes a downward-firing port paired with Fyne Audio’s renowned BassTrax Tractrix diffuser system to deliver a 360 degree LF wavefront. BassTrax makes in-room bass response smoother and affords a broader scope of room positioning for this large loudspeaker.

As a significant upgrade on the F704, the F704SP’s entire plinth and BassTrax assembly are machined to the exact high specification as the F1-12S. This incorporates a heavyweight sandwich of aluminium plates, advanced tractrix cone engineering and Fyne’s large M12 threaded metal cone feet with convenient top mount height adjustment. The plinth assembly acts as an ultra-rigid radial LF wave guide for the BassTrax porting system, dramatically improving bass performance across the LF range compared to traditionally ported designs. Moreover, the plinth design provides exceptional stability for each 71.5kg loudspeaker with optimal floor coupling.

Central to the F704SP’s enhanced sonic profile is an upgraded crossover network. Redesigned through computer modelling and exhaustive listening sessions, this crossover now incorporates premium components, including ClarityCap high grade polypropylene capacitors and Vishay high power military-grade thick film resistors in the high frequency signal path. These improvements reduce compression effects and elevate detail resolution, enabling listeners to experience a richer, more lifelike musical performance, says the maker.

Further enhancing signal purity, Fyne Audio has applied its proprietary cryogenic treatment to the complete crossover assembly at its dedicated in-house DCT facility in the new factory based in central, Scotland. This advanced process relaxes material stresses in components, solder joints, and wiring, maximising signal transparency and audio fidelity.

Internal signal integrity is further assured by employing Neotech PC-OCC wiring throughout, which is known for its clarity and transparent signal transfer characteristics. Externally, the loudspeaker features superior quality gold-plated WBT Nextgen terminals, providing impeccable connectivity for premium audio systems.

The F704SP is a landmark product in Fyne Audio’s portfolio, standing as its flagship contemporary styled loudspeaker to challenge competitors in performance, design, finish and price. At £19,999.99 per pair, the F704SP leverages all of Fyne’s engineering and acoustic know-how into a UK-built loudspeaker at class-leading value.

In terms of performance, Fyne Audio says the F704SP is a remarkable powerhouse. It boasts an impressive frequency response extending from a deep 22Hz to a clear 26kHz, peak power handling capabilities reaching up to 600W, and a high sensitivity of 96dB/W. The substantial weight of 71.5kg (157.6 lbs) further underscores the extensive build quality and engineering excellence that Fyne Audio has invested in this premium loudspeaker.

In addition to the piano gloss black, gloss white, and gloss walnut finishes of the original F704, the F704SP is also available in a beautiful real wood walnut veneer. Hand finished to a satin sheen, this new finish accentuates the rich texture of the wood grain, elevating the loudspeaker to the status of bespoke luxury furniture and the centrepiece of any music or living room.

Built in the UK at Fyne Audio’s new Scottish manufacturing facility and head office opened late last year, the F704SP has been created to embody the pinnacle of British craftsmanship, technological advancement, and acoustic precision. Not only one of Fyne’s most ambitious and powerful loudspeakers to date but also a true statement piece that encapsulates the brand’s unwavering commitment to music, engineering excellence, luxury design and the pursuit of sonic perfection through point source driver technologies.
