Situated on roughly two acres, a 8,800-square-foot residence, including a separate pool house, presents a harmonious blend of Japanese-inspired architecture and modern smart home convenience. For the homeowner, whose passion for Japanese culture and design was born from his travels, the goal was clear: create a tranquil living environment that honors minimalism while incorporating powerful, intuitive technology that simplifies daily life rather than disrupts it.
To bring this vision to life, the homeowner turned to Logic Integration, a premier integration firm in Lone Tree, Colorado. With years of experience under its belt, a deep understanding of smart systems, an eye for design and a wide breadth of interoperable products from which to choose, they checked off every box.
“From the beginning, the homeowner made it clear that he didn’t want technology to interfere with the home’s serene, minimalist aesthetic,” says Logic Integration’s CEO and Founder, Shawn Hansson. “Our challenge was to integrate robust systems while keeping everything visually discreet.”
This meant collaborating closely with the project’s lighting designer, interior designer and other trades to ensure the technology was seamlessly integrated. All core equipment was housed in a mechanical room, allowing the rest of the home to remain free of visible tech clutter. Logic Integration replaced multi-gang light switches with sleek Control4 keypads and flush mounted small-aperture speakers seamlessly with ceiling surfaces. The result is a clean, uninterrupted visual flow throughout the home.
Much of the project’s success hinged on the decision to use products and platforms from ADI | Snap One, which allowed Logic Integration to design a cohesive, interoperable ecosystem.
“At this scale, compatibility across brands is critical,” explains Shawn. “Using products from ADI | Snap One, including Control4, WattBox, Luma, Araknis and Access Networks, we were able to ensure all products worked together seamlessly. Snap One’s wide distribution options also gave us access to everything we needed in one place, which is a huge time-saver.”
Along with design, ease of use was the homeowner’s top priority. Control4 was the hands-down choice for this project, thanks to its user-friendly interface and consistent experience across devices.
“We asked what mattered most and he said simplicity. That’s why Control4 was a natural choice – it’s intuitive, easy to manage and scalable,” Shawn adds.
Control4 powers the home’s 21-zone audio system, video distribution across all key rooms, and custom lighting scenes. Through strategically placed Control4 touchpanels in the kitchen, master bedroom, other bedrooms and pool house, homeowners and guests alike can activate scenes, control shades, or adjust audio with ease.
Scenes such as “Day,” “Evening,” and “Night,” are used throughout the home, even in spaces with fewer lighting loads, to maintain consistent labeling and intuitive interaction.
Some scenes, like entertainment presets for large gathering spaces, are tailored to adjust lighting and music with a single touch. Lighting coves and accent lights also shift throughout the day based on natural daylight levels, further reinforcing the home’s connection to nature and rhythm.
This serene smart home is not only beautiful, it’s immersive. Audio distribution was a cornerstone of the project, both indoors and outdoors. The client requested that audio be available in every single room, including a private spa and meditation room equipped with a steam shower, as well as across the landscaped exterior.
“The outdoor landscape audio was our favourite part of the project,” Shawn shares. “The sound quality is amazing and thanks to Control4, the client can play music from anywhere, by the pool, in the spa, or while walking the garden path.”
The entertainment experience continues inside with a surround-sound system installed in the billiards/theatre room, a casual media space optimised for film-watching and gaming.
Security and network performance were also key priorities, especially given the homeowner’s frequent travel. Logic Integration installed a Luma surveillance system for real-time visibility, with camera feeds accessible through the Control4 interface.
To ensure reliable connectivity, they deployed a robust Araknis network optimised for work-from-home demands. “Most people aren’t getting the internet speeds they pay for,” Shawn notes. “We make sure they do.”
A standout feature of the smart ecosystem is OvrC, Snap One’s remote management platform. It enables Logic Integration to remotely monitor and troubleshoot the system, perform automatic WattBox reboots when devices fail and communicate efficiently with the client’s house manager via a custom ticketing system.
“This was a major factor in the client choosing us,” says Shawn. “If something goes wrong, his house manager can report it easily without having to bother him. We can often fix it remotely.”
Underlying the technical and design success is a strong relationship with ADI | Snap One. “It starts with our ADI | Snap One rep. He’s always responsive and keeps us top of mind and having that kind of support means everything,” Shawn says.
Shawn also credits ADI | Snap One’s commitment to customer service and continuous product training for making this kind of project possible. “Whenever we bring in a new brand, we can count on ADI | Snap One to help us learn and integrate it the right way. That makes a big difference.”
In this Japanese-inspired residence, every part of the home has been thoughtfully curated to reflect that intentionality. Motion sensors in stairwells add convenience and safety. The front gate intercom, with a pedestal-mounted door station, calls through to multiple touchpanels, providing seamless visitor communication.
When the homeowner wants to unwind in his meditation room or host guests outdoors, the smart system is ready at the press of a button.
