Sony has added to its home cinema line-up with the addition of a new, compact native 4K home cinema projector.
The VPL-VW550ES is the third model in Sony’s existing portfolio to support 4K HDR, which is said to be particularly suitable for watching music and sporting events. As demand for 4K HDR content continues to grow the VPL-VW550ES is future-proofed for the latest 4K standards, as well as being compatible with HDR.
“The VPL-VW550ES is another example of Sony’s commitment to bringing the most true to reality images and immersive experience to our customers,” says Thomas Issa, product manager at Sony Professional Solutions Europe. “4K HDR imagery is the closest representation of the reality our eyes see and home cinema fans will now be able to enjoy the very best picture quality on the new projector in a way they never have before. With 4K HDR, seeing truly is believing.”
The VPL-VW550ES is the third home cinema projector released by Sony since IFA 2015, after updating its HW series with new VPL-HW45ES and its top of the line VPL-VW5000ES.
The VPL-VW550ES is available in Premium White or Black and offers quiet operation 6,000 hours of operation (in low mode).
The VPL-VW550ES replaces the VPL-VW520ES and comes with 1,800 lumens brightness, an improved dynamic contrast ratio of 350,000:1 and Sony’s 4K technology for clearer and sharper pictures. HDR compatibility is also included as is Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) – used for future broadcasting services and user generated contents – through a firmware update.
HDCP 2.2 connectivity for both HDMI1 and HDMI2 terminals is also on-board as is a built-in RF 3D transmitter.
The VPL-VW550ES will begin shipping in October 2016 across Europe.
