Roksan has announced the launch of the Caspian Series 4G. Comprising two models, each of which builds on a highly advanced electronics platform and can integrate with each other and the system they sit within, Caspian Series 4G is an outstanding way to experience true high-fidelity audio, says the maker.
Expanding on the hard-won reputation of Roksan’s Caspian series, both products are born of Monitor Audio Group’s Transparent Design Philosophy. This results in exemplary high-resolution audio performance, but also intuitive user interfaces and an understated, elegant industrial design for the ages, says the company.
Caspian Streaming Amplifier
The Caspian Streaming Amplifier is designed with the modern user firmly in mind. Streaming capability is via the BluOS platform for high-resolution multi-room convenience. Whilst the smart implementation of Euphoria, Caspian’s power amplification architecture, Rapture DAC technology and an advanced pre-amplifier and phono stage combine to deliver pristine sound, no matter what source a user prefers.
Caspian Integrated Amplifier
The Caspian Integrated Amplifier has been created to deliver total performance through its innovative Euphoria amplification architecture and advanced analogue connections, offering a high-quality presentation of music via any source. The evolutionary Rapture DAC technology, for improved digital to analogue signal conversion, allows for a near perfect signal transfer, and ensures that the Euphoria amplification delivers total performance from whatever source a user connects, says the product’s creator.
Both Caspian Series models are hand-built at Monitor Audio Group’s Headquarters in Rayleigh, Essex, United Kingdom.
Key Technologies
Rapture DAC
Caspian Series 4G utilises Roksan’s Rapture DAC technology; a differential current-conveyor topology, which allows more information to be extracted for strong analogue reproduction. This topology has several measurable advantages over the traditional approach to digital to analogue reconstruction using op-amp ICs. The current-conveyor has superior gain-bandwidth characteristics essential for faithful high-resolution audio reproduction. Moreover, despite being discrete (no off-the-shelf solution exists) it relies on a single circuit element for gain matching. Therefore, it can be utilised effectively in a discrete-component level solution.
Euphoria Amplification
Caspian Series 4G uses Roksan’s new authoritative and intelligent class AB amplifier architecture, Euphoria, which has been designed to excel in power and finesse. Roksan has evolved the AB topology, with individual power supplies for the current and voltage amplifiers, this reduced interaction delivers purer, more detailed and cleaner sound.
Volume Control
Caspian Series 4G’s innovative volume control encapsulates the best of both the digital and analogue worlds. A hybrid digital-analogue volume control algorithm leverages powerful digital signal processing to facilitate tone controls and system matching.
Powerful DSP Engine
Accessed via the MaestroUnite app, Caspian Series 4G’s intelligent DSP engine optimises a user’s listening experience through the application of four key technologies: Intelligent Tone, Intelligent
Boundary, Intelligent Speaker and Intelligent Phono
In combination, these technologies allow users to fine-tune their listening experience to their environment for the best possible results.
High-resolution Display
Caspian Series 4G’s new monochrome high-contrast OLED display frames the intuitive single point of control user interface more clearly and larger than ever before. Customisable input icons allow easy source selection, while a new progress indicator displays features such as track length.
Fully Balanced Pre-amplifier
Caspian Series 4G utilises a new analogue pre-amplifier section, the aim of which is to ensure that the signal is kept as clean as possible. A carefully configured and fully balanced design, it delivers the highest levels of noise rejection possible. It boasts a novel ground switching input design, reducing cross-talk between connected devices.
MM Phono Stage
The Caspian Series 4G’s phono stage facilitates accurate playback of vinyl. It features dedicated an input for MM cartridges, and the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) filter and equalisation of each product is calibrated to a 0.5dB tolerance, thus ensuring a high-performance vinyl experience.
BluOS
BluOS remains Roksan’s streaming partner of choice for the Caspian Streaming Amplifier. BluOS provides users with access to limitless music via the world’s most popular streaming services, and the ability to wirelessly stream music at fast speeds with zero loss in sound quality. Users can stream up to 64 zones of high-resolution audio, up to 24-bit, 192kHz.
MaestroUnite app
Caspian Series 4G makes use of Monitor Audio Group’s in-house designed MaestroUnite app. The intuitive-to-use app provides simple set-up options, as well as providing access to advanced features such as input configuration, headphone sensitivity, analogue input gain, balance, low power standby, and the Roksan DSP Engine’s enhanced features for tailoring a system to a specific environment.
Design & Build
Caspian Series 4G builds on the foundations laid by the Roksan Attessa electronics, but also extends the performance, intuitive user-experience, and physical design presence. The aesthetic identity remains sleek, clean and modern, while design elements such as the custom extruded heatsinks, internal antennas and chamfered machined edging are pure ‘Roksan’.
