Imagesound recently completed the AV system design, specification, integration, calibration and commissioning throughout the Sainsbury Wing and Supporters House as part of The National Gallery’s NG200 refurbishment project.
Imagesound’s team overcame architectural limitations, shifting specifications and aesthetic demands to create an immersive, intuitive visitor experience, achieved through engineering, collaboration and design excellence.
The National Gallery’s bicentenary celebration, known as NG200, was an opportunity to rethink how visitors engage with the institution from the moment they arrive.

With the Sainsbury Wing now the main entrance, the Gallery needed to upgrade five floors to better support way-finding, exhibitions and high profile, out-of-hours events.
Technology needed to be flexible, reliable, and simple to use, but also discreet and sympathetic to the Grade I-listed architecture, not competing with it. Sustainability was also important, with a focus on reducing energy use and supporting its long-term operational resilience.
The project represents a sustainable, inclusive and future proof AV deployment incorporating a 12m 0.8mm Samsung LED wall, custom Peerless structures and mounts, K-Array loudspeakers and a bespoke Q-SYS distribution/control system.

At the National Gallery The NG200 Welcome Project reimagined how visitors arrive and engage, combining not only AV, but architecture and storytelling in an iconic British cultural space.
An 11m ultra-fine pixel pitch LED media wall delivers impact on entry, while directional audio, event presets and digital signage enhance wayfinding and immersion. Behind the scenes, pre-configured spaces and remote control enable fast changeovers for talks, workshops and hybrid events.
