iDevices, the seven-year-old smart home manufacturer, is set to join one of the world’s oldest electrical companies – Hubbell.
For those unfamiliar with Hubbell, the 130-year-old company was founded by American industrialist Harvel Hubbell, who invented the electrical wall plug and the pull-chain lamp socket.
iDevices offers a range of products in the smart home arena, taking on competitors such as Wink and SmartThings. While its product range now includes everything from smart plugs and thermostats, the company began thanks to a simple product dubbed iGrill – a Bluetooth-enabled food thermometer.
Despite its thermometer being received well, the company eventually sold it to Weber-Stephens products, allowing iDevices to build up its war chest to take on the likes of SmartThings.
Hubbell may be a 130-year-old company, but it wants to captialise on the growing smart home market. The company noted that iDevices’ experiencing in developing and designing smart home solutions, combined with its own global manufacturing and distribution prowess, ‘will lay the perfect groundwork for a partnership in IoT’.
iDevices customers needn’t worry about the acquisition – the company has reaffirmed its commitment to current users, noting that its products and apps will continue to operate as normal.
