Prove your humanity

On Wednesday 7 March, the Crestron showroom in Chelsea hosted the first UK Women in AV (WAVE) event of 2018.

In keeping with the London Design Week theme of ‘Legends’, Crestron and WAVE celebrated International Women’s Day (8 March) by getting some ‘leGINdary’ women in the AV industry together for an afternoon of networking & gin tasting.

The mission of Women in AV is, and has always been, to educate, support and inspire women through collaboration, by sharing ideas, knowledge and experiences and by mentoring and
nurturing professional growth.

The UK group is predominantly run by Abi Brown, MD of Openingz.com, an organisation that recruits for posts both in and out of the AV industry. Abi is supported by Pat Deeley, who is instrumental in holding WAVE’s North events plus the all important annual meet up held at ISE in Amsterdam.

Speaking to CE Pro Europe, Abi says, “It’s really encouraging to see the numbers consistently
increase. Though we hold less frequent events than we used to, we truly believe the value and content have reached a higher standard and this is what attracts people to us – we have returning faces but always welcome new faces too. What can you expect when attending one of our events? A warm welcome and introductions to others; any questions you may have surrounding the AV industry are sure to be answered due to the wealth of experience in the room!

“The friendships and relationships that are being developed are strong and we work hard to put people together and encourage and celebrate all the successes within the industry. This is so important to us and through next year we want to share more content that demonstrates what an amazing contribution these women are making.

“Alongside our events we are also busy complementing our member activities online in our social remit – our Twitter group now boasts over 9,500 followers and the engagement on here is lively. Plus our LinkedIn and Facebook groups are continuing to grow. Follow us on
Twitter @WomeninAV and find us on Facebook and LinkedIn.

“To get involved with 2018 events please contact Abi Brown, we’re excited at the prospects for next year and beyond… and who we will meet!”
