It is already becoming crystal clear that 2017 will be the year of not only the smart home, but of the smart home AI. Whether it’s Amazon’s Alexa or Google’s Assistant, there’s some artificial intelligence somewhere helping homeowners effectively manage their connected households. The latest AI hoping to take control of the smart home is Vivint’s Sky.
Vivint already offers a plethora of smart home products, including door bell cameras, thermostats, smart locks and garage door controls – but Sky is an AI which will tie all of these products together in one cohesive smart home.
So what exactly does Sky give you that other smart home AIs don’t? Well, Vivint says that Sky can use information from the sensors placed throughout the house to determine what it needs to do. It can also use detailed phone and system usage analytics to give users curated recommendations based on their routine.
Using the sensor data Vivint can recognise when all occupiers have left the house and ensure that all doors and windows are locked. It can even adjust the heating for when no one is home, similar to Nest’s thermostat.
Like Nest’s Learning Thermostat, the Sky AI is constantly learning based on behavioural patterns and should begin making changes automatically after a few confirmations from the homeowner. The Sky AI can even learn through the Amazon Alexa voice assistant, a sort of AI inception.
