Prove your humanity

August has revealed a new way to unlock its Smart Lock and it’s with Apple’s first wearable – the Apple Watch.

Rather than digging out a smartphone from one’s pocket, users will now be able to simply ‘swipe and tap’ on the Watch to unlock their door.

The Yves Behar-designed smart lock has already become one of the most popular products in its category, but while other firms were dashing to add Apple Watch functionality, August has taken a wait and see approach.

Wearables could become a key way to unlock doors in the future, although as of yet only the Apple Watch is supported by August and not Android Wear – despite rumours surrounding the number of watches sold.

Early reviews of the August Smart Lock criticised it for being slow to connect with an iOS or Android smartphone – there’s been no official announcement from August whether or not this has been fixed with the Watch, although until it is sorted some may want to continue with traditional locks instead.

The August Smart Lock is not yet available in the UK due to its deadbolt design, although the company has hinted in the past about plans to expand the business to other markets in the future.
