A new British Standard is being proposed by CEDIA and the British Standards Institution (BSI) for the smart home, and installers can help shape it.
For many years, right across the install sector, many have been calling for recognised standards to help the industry grow and deliver consistent quality.
It’s welcome news then, that industry association CEDIA has been working with the BSI to produce a British Standard Publicly Available Specification (PAS) for smart home wiring, entitled ‘Design and Installation of Telecommunications and Broadcast Infrastructure within the Home’.
Using the CEDIA Smart Home Recommended Wiring Guidelines as the basis to create the British Standard, PAS is now open for public consultation.
The PAS gives recommendations for the design and installation of domestic wiring infrastructure for the delivery of digital services based upon the requirements of BS EN 50173 and BS EN 50174.
The proposed standard is designed to be suitable for use within single residential dwellings and most homes of multiple occupations.
This PAS process gives installers as well as suppliers into the trade the chance to review the document and leave comments and recommendations.
A significant step for the industry, CEDIA is encouraging as many of its members and industry stakeholders to get involved, to make sure the standard is produced to the highest standard possible. Comments are open until December 1 and can be logged here.
