Russ Andrews introduces the Kimber Kable Fenix in-ear monitor (IEM) cable to the UK, bringing the company’s woven cable geometry to personal audio enthusiasts and professional performers.
Fenix, pronounced ‘Phoenix’, takes its design cues from the acclaimed Kimber Axios headphone cables and is available with MMCX, A2DC and 2-pin connectors to suit the majority of IEMs. For connection to a headphone amplifier, customers can choose from a wide range of terminations including 3.5mm and 6.3mm TRS, 4.4mm TRRS balanced, 4-pin XLR balanced and dual 3-pin XLR balanced.
Kimber offers Fenix in three versions. The CU model uses eight 24AWG pure copper conductors in a braided arrangement. The hybrid Fenix HB combines four 24AWG pure silver conductors with four 24AWG pure copper, while the top-of-the-range AG version features eight 24AWG pure silver conductors in a specially developed woven design.
“IEMs are a hugely popular way of listening to personal music and with the introduction of the new Kimber Fenix, it is now possible to greatly improve the reproduction by swapping out the standard cable for one of the Fenix variants,” says Russ Andrews, chairman and technical director.
He adds, “IEMs are also common place in the world of live music, with many musicians using them for personal monitoring on stage. Professional IEMs, moulded to the users’ ears and featuring multiple drivers, can be extremely expensive. So the ability to upgrade the cable to Fenix, in order to achieve the best possible sound quality, can release their full potential to greatly improve the ability to hear detail in the monitor feed.”
Each Fenix cable is hand-crafted to order to accommodate the wide variety of connectors and cable lengths, with a four-week lead time. Despite the bespoke nature of each build, the cables are covered by the standard Russ Andrews 60-Day Money-Back Guarantee.
Indicative UK prices start at £719 for a 1.2m CU cable with 6.3mm TRS to MMCX connectors. The HB version costs £1,430.20 and the AG version £1,968.80 for the same specification. Standard lengths are 1.2m, 1.5m and 2m, with custom lengths available on request. Source connector options include 3.5mm TRS, ¼in TRS, 4-pin XLR and 4.4mm balanced (with a £100 surcharge).
