Ortofon launches MC X Series Cartridge Range

Ortofon A/S has unveiled a new generation of premium moving coil (MC) cartridges at Munich High End 2025 – designed to help elevate the listening experience of true analogue music lovers.

With the MC X Series, consisting of the MC X10 (£269.00, €299.00 SRP), MC X20 (£429.00, €499.00 SRP), MC X30 (£599.00, €699.00 SRP) and MC X40 (£875.00, €999.00 SRP), Ortofon aims to set a new benchmark in MC cartridge design, pushing premium Moving Coil technology to what the brand is calling “unprecedented levels of performance”.

  • MIM-moulded honeycomb-structured cores, made from stainless steel.
  • Pure silver coil systems, for signal transfer.
  • Optimised magnet systems for clearer musical output.
  • Custom-developed rubber dampers, designed for each model in the range.
  • A new body-shape, inspired by Ortofon’s desire to fuse form with function.

At the core of the MC X Series is an advanced honeycomb-structured stainless-steel frame, created using Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) technology. This refined construction ensures superior mechanical stability, providing an ideal foundation for precise and accurate sound reproduction.

After moulding and sintering, a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) surface treatment is applied to enhance surface appearance and maintain material integrity over time. This core-structure supports the entire cartridge system inside the stylish outer chassis.

All MC X cartridges feature coils wound with high-purity silver wire. The use of silver ensures exceptional signal clarity,  claims the manufacturer, delivering sound with precision and preserving every detail without interference.

Alongside the silver wiring, the MC X Series also makes use of a newly developed magnet system with a one-piece pole cylinder integrated into a rear magnet yoke. Engineered for maximum magnetic efficiency, when paired with the pure silver coils this configuration ensures a clean, powerful signal path that elevates the overall performance of each of the cartridges.

Ortofon’s in-house rubber production facility has developed new custom compounds for the MC X Series, helping support each cartridge’s signature sound. Rubber dampers are essential for controlling the physical movement of the coils, maintaining stability, minimising unwanted vibrations that can interfere with the musical signal and enabling precise coil motion.

The result of this new development is superior tracking, reduced distortion and greater musical accuracy in every MC X cartridge.

MC X cartridges are shipping in the UK immediately via Henley Audio.
