AVID has announced the first new products in a range of launches planned for its 30th year.
The Cambridgeshire company has upgraded both of its tonearms to optimise tracking and improve sound quality. Introduced in 2023, the newly upgraded Altus V2 and Nexus V2 tonearms now benefit from AVID’s advancement in bias control technology.
AVID’s research revealed that the bias force required for optimal tracking varies across the record surface. Higher levels of bias force are needed at the beginning and end of the record, while less is required in the middle, with additional variations depending on the cartridge’s stylus profile.
Addressing these challenges, AVID’s new tonearms incorporate a bias compensation system, allowing independent adjustments for each section of the record. The new system ensures accuracy across the entire playback surface.
Reflecting the leap forward in design and performance, a modest increase in price of 10% has been levied, reflecting the R&D costs, the enhanced technology and the craftsmanship involved in the production.
Existing Altus and Nexus tonearms can be upgraded at the UK factory for a supplement, via AVID’s global retailer network.
The Altus V2 and Nexus V2 tonearms are available now:
Altus V2: £1,650/€1,999/$2,295; Nexus V2: £4,950/€5,999/$6,199
Existing models upgrade to bias control version: Altus £265; Nexus £300.
