ARCAM has announced the Radia Series loudspeakers, marking its return to speaker design. The line-up – two bookshelf models, a centre channel, a subwoofer and two floorstanders – provides a complete solution for both music and home cinema setups.
The speakers have been designed to perform seamlessly with any high-quality hi-fi or home cinema system, with additional fine-tuning available when used alongside specific Radia electronics.
While ARCAM has focused primarily on electronics since its founding 50 years ago in Cambridge, loudspeakers are not new to the brand. In 1985, ARCAM introduced the ARCAM Two bookshelf speakers and more recently, designed the Muso loudspeakers.
With the Radia Series, ARCAM returns to loudspeakers, applying five decades of audio engineering alongside the advanced research, measurement and testing facilities available through HARMAN.
The Radia loudspeakers follow the established Radia design language, with a subtle yellow accent and cabinets finished in premium Black Walnut wood veneer. Magnetically attached grilles create a clean front profile, while optional solid aluminium stands are available for the bookshelf models. The speakers integrate easily into living spaces and pair equally well with Radia electronics or other high-quality hi-fi and home cinema systems.
The Radia loudspeakers work seamlessly with other-brand electronics, but when paired with the ARCAM SA35 or SA45 streaming amplifiers, each speaker can be fine-tuned via ARCAM’s anechoic EQ (AEQ). The electronics’ output is automatically optimised to maximise accuracy of each speaker, enhancing sound quality within a straightforward home audio setup. AEQ will also be available on the upcoming Radia Series AV products.
The cabinets are rigidly cross‑braced for stability and control. All five passive loudspeakers feature a 25 mm (1‑inch) DCC aluminium dome tweeter mounted in an Acoustic Lens waveguide. This waveguide improves dispersion and phase alignment, creating a more even sound across the listening area and a stable, well‑defined stereo image.
Low‑ and mid-frequency performance is handled by Micro Ceramic Composite (MCC) cone woofers, chosen for their combination of stiffness and low mass. The R15, R35 and R35C models use a 130 mm (5.25‑inch) MCC driver, while the larger R25 and R45 models employ a 165 mm version.
Midrange duties are handled by Deep Ceramic Composite (DCC) drivers: the R35 uses a 130 mm unit, and the R45 a 165 mm unit. Completing the range, the R25B subwoofer features a 250 mm (10‑inch) coated fibre-composite cone woofer, designed to deliver precise, controlled bass.
