Daniel J SaitThe RDI says the ‘The Connected Home’ awareness module forms the foundation of a blended learning pathway which allows installers to increase their knowledge and technical ability in relevant Connected and Smart Home areas.
The pathway was designed after feedback from installers stating their desire to move into the higher technology areas associated with Connected Home technologies, but who did not have the basic knowledge to make this step.
The Connected Home awareness module, is aimed at filling this knowledge gap by introducing the Connected Home concepts in a straightforward format and includes topics such as wired and wireless networking, signal and HDMI distribution, SMART television and emerging technologies such as Ultra HD television, telehealthcare and home automation.
A practical, trainer delivered course will also be introduced designed and delivered in partnership with experienced install company Smart Home Projects to consolidate the knowledge learned and to give practical hands-on activities to up skill learners.
The practical course will be delivered at a number of venues throughout the UK.
The topics included on the course start at a basic level with areas such as network connectivity and wireless technology and progress through to more challenging topics such as MAC addresses, firewalls, security and troubleshooting.
The majority of the day includes many practical activities working within groups.
Leading on from this, The RDI and Smart Home Projects will be working together to create a pathway of training of further educational courses to include:
• Security systems /CCTV/Intruder Alarms
• Indoor and Outdoor Lighting and Mood Lighting
• Electric Blinds
• HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) Control
• Multi-room Audio distribution
• Cinema room design and installation
• Designing AV systems for whole-home solutions
Smart Home Projects and the RDI are running a pilot for the practical course at the end of November. The pilot has been supported by LG, KnowHow, Humax and Samsung who are providing equipment for installers taking part.
