Sony hasn’t really pushed the PlayStation 4 as the centre of the home cinema, but it’s new Cloud Remote for PS4 should make it easier for users wanting to control all the AV gear connected to their console. That could include the TV, projector, AV amplifier or speakers – as well as the console itself.
The Cloud Remote for PS4 is smarter than your average console media remote, as it’s designed to automatically find all the AV gear connected to the console. That means installers don’t need to spend endless hours programming it. Instead all the gear is discovered using the cloud technology built into the PDP Cloud Remote app.
While this remote isn’t as powerful as something you’ll find from Crestron or URC, it’s capable of basic functionality that may satisfy those looking to just control their media. It features controls for power, input, and volume, while it also features all the standard PlayStation buttons users have become accustomed to – including triangle, circle, X and square.
The Cloud Remote for PS4 has yet to be confirmed for the UK or European markets, but in the US it will be priced at $29.99. It will also include a 30-day free trial for PlayStation Vue Core plan, which allows users to watch live TV from channels including ESPN, FX, AMC, and Cartoon Network.
