AliceTP Vision has launched the 65in Philips 8901 4k Ultra HD TV, introducing Ambilight Lumious technology, which the manufacturer is branding ‘the most significant development yet for the unique Ambilight system’.
The 8901 boasts ‘razor-sharp’ UHD picture quality, an ultra-narrow bezel and ‘superb brightness and contrast’, combined with an Android LTM operating system and Ambilight performance.
Philips’ Ambilight system uses rows of LEDs mounted on the rear of the set to create a coloured halo of light on the wall behind the TV.
The colours are said to precisely match the on-screen content to create the impression of a larger image, using nine small pico-projectors, each precisely positioned on the rear of the 8901 TV.
Philips claims that intelligent overlap technology allows the seamless projection of the onscreen image, motion and colour on to the rear wall surrounding the set.
Further developments in Ambilight technology take the system beyond just films, extending to music with the new Ambilight Music Mode, which provides a coloured halo of light that can reportedly follow and react to the dynamics of any music played through the TV, whether via a streaming service such as Spotify, USB or a music channel. This can also be integrated with Philips Hue Smart Lighting.
The Philips 8901 TV is powered by Android LTM and certified by Google, granting access to all TV orientated Apps, services and content in the Google Play Store while also complementing the existing Philips Smart TV offering.
Fast navigation is made possible due to its Quad Core processing and remote control with QWERTY keyboard, swipe pad and speech recognition technology.
Also new from TP Vision is the Philips 8601 range, including a 55in model, which combines four-sided Ambilight and the smart capabilities of an Android L operating system.
The design team has included an 18-speaker system featuring 16 micro-drivers and two in-built subwoofers with a total power output of 50W.
The micro-drivers are mounted in two polished dark chrome, metal sound sticks that run the length of the left and right side of the set, which can also be detached and placed wide of the set or mounted in optional stands.
A DTS Premium high-end processing suite ensures that the 8601 can deliver even at the highest levels, without clipping, fluctuations or distortion.
Four-sided Ambilight – which in combination with the super-slim bezel and the Arch Stand – is said to create the illusion that the 8601 TV is ‘floating in a halo of light’. What Philips means by this is that the Ambilight technology projects a glow of light that matches on-screen content onto the wall behind the TV on all four sides of the set.
The Philips 8601 4k Ultra HD TV features a BrightPro system to boost whites and local bright areas of the picture up to twice as high as standard TVs whilst keeping darker areas, ‘deep and inky black’ to ensure superior contrast.
Meanwhile, Philips’ Perfect Pixel Ultra HD engine digitally adjusts and optimises picture quality to deliver sharp, detailed pictures from any input.
Good quality sources are optimised to a high level of sharpness and detail, whilst poorer quality or non-UHD inputs are offered noise-free due to Advanced DNR. Ultra Resolution upscaling technology ensures that all images are reproduced with the same detail and sharpness of native Ultra HD.
Like the 8901, the Philips 8601 TVs are powered by Android LTM and are certified by Google, giving access to all TV orientated Apps, services and content in the Google Play Store while also complementing the existing Philips Smart TV offering.

All new products will reach the shelves during the third quarter of 2016 in Europe and Russia.
