Panasonic’s DMP-UB900 4K Blu-ray player costs approximately £600, but at IFA, the manufacturer has unveiled the DMP-UB700 4K Blu-ray player, which will cost around £378.

Due to be available from the end of October to early November in the UK, the DMP-UB700 takes on most of the same features as the more expensive DMP-UB900 – such as 60fps playback, HDR support, high-res audio playback (WAV, FLAC, DSD, ALAC) and the ability to stream 4K content – but it won’t come with THX certification or 7.1 surround sound. There is a digital optical connection, however.

The DMP-UB700 puts Panasonic’s latest offering more in line with Samsung’s UBD-K8500 4K UHD Blu-ray player which retails at £429, although the Xbox One S is still in the lead as far as the cheapest offering goes, costing £249.99

The DMP-UB700 is Ultra HD Premium certified, features two HDMI outputs to separate audio and video signals and can be used to play back hi-res audio formats such as DSD and ALAC.
