Libratone has decided to bring its flair for design to the multi-room audio market.

As part of this push for multi-room audio supremacy Libratone has revealed two new speakers; an updated Zipp and a Zipp Mini.

Like other multi-room systems, Libratone’s works by linking multiple speakers together – although unlike some on the market, there’s no need for a bridge to be installed; as everything is managed using an existing Wi-Fi connection.

Libratone calls the technology ‘SoundSpace Link’. Essentially this is not that dissimilar to other technologies from the likes of Sonos and Denon.

SoundSpace Link supports up to six speakers in a single group, while eight groups can be on one wireless network. The system is limited to just 16 speakers in total however.

Both the Zipp and Zipp Mini support SoundSpace Link, along with a variety of other connectivity options.

Dual band Wi-Fi, AirPlay, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0, a 3.55mm jack, USB play in, Spotify Connect, Q Play and Apple Music support are all included as standard.

The Libratone Zipp utilises an integrated full digital Class D amplified ‘Adaptive DSP’ sound optimisation and speaker protection system.

This has 100 W of total power, across three DSP enhanced amplifier channels.

The Libratone Zipp Mini uses the same system but has 60W of total power across two DSP channels.

Driving the Zipp is a 360° reflector, four inch neodymium woofer, two one inch soft dome neodymium tweeters and two four inch low frequency radiators.

The Zipp Mini swaps out the woofer and radiators for down-sized versions, a three inch woofer and two three and a half inch low frequency radiators, respectively.

Both speakers can be plugged in or battery driven, with Libratone claiming between eight and 10 hours on a single charge.

As with all Libratone products, users will be able to buy a variety of cloth covers to customise the speaker to their tastes.

Each cover will be offered for £19 each, while the speakers will retail at £219 for the Zipp and £179 for the Zipp Mini.
